Is it worth it to risk changing careers to do something that
you love? What if you fail, and can't turn back to the security of
your old job? These risks and concerns are very real, and need to be
given thorough time and thought.
The following tips will help to decrease the risk
that is associated with changing careers, as well as help you create
a plan of action.
1. FIND YOUR PASSION

When you know you're not happy at your current job, the first thing
to do is think about what you do like doing.
This is a difficult question to answer. Everyone
wants to do what they love, but not many know what that is. Get
out a sheet of paper, and make a list of the things that you like
to do. This list doesn't have to necessarily be jobs or careers.
The items can be hobbies, things you do in your free time, or
things that others do that you would like to try.
When your list is finished, try to think of a
career that incorporates several of those items. At this point,
anything goes. Even if you feel that your desired career is out of
your league, it is worth further consideration if it is your true
passion.
2. LEARN ABOUT IT
Now that you have a few ideas of what you'd really like to do for
a living, it's time to learn. To begin, you can go to the library
and check out a few books about your chosen field.
You can also look on the Internet. The resources
on the Web are unlimited, and virtually free. When your mind is
set on learning about something new, you'll find tips and ideas
all around you.
If you know someone who is in the field that
you're interested in, get in contact with them. You can learn so
much from someone who is already doing what you are interested in.
What if you don't know the person? That's fine.
When you show interest in what they do for a living, they will be
more than happy to help. You'll make them feel great, and they
will want to do the same for you.
3. TAKE ACTION
Quitting your job the second you think of an idea is not the way
to go. Once you get the information and resources you require for
your new career, take it slow.
Look for companies in the area who are hiring for
your position. Call them for information about the position and
its prerequisites. You can also start to update your resume, or
put a new one together. Read Also:
